Chemistry/Biochemistry Doctoral Student Addresses International Society

Moana Hopoate-Sitake, a doctoral student in the Chemistry/Biochemistry department, was invited to give a plenary address during the 16th World Congress of the International Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy on September 24th, 2008. Steve Graves, Moana’s faculty advisor, noted that this invitation would be considered, “an honor for an established investigator to give such an address”. Of the 21 addresses of this type, Dr. Graves was confident that Moana’s was the only student presentation given.

The title of her talk was "Digibind reduces the inhibition of red blood cell (RBC)Rb+ uptake caused by endogenous sodium pump inhibitors in serum and placenta from women with preeclampsia (PE)."

The college wishes to congratulate Moana on this well-deserved opportunity.
