The College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (CPMS) is pleased to announce that the Department of Physics and Astronomy will present a public lecture series to celebrate the International Year of Astronomy.
The second lecture, presented by Dr. Thomas Stephens, Science Software Development Manager for the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA), will be held on July 7th at 7:30 p.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library auditorium. Stephens’ lecture on his work with SOFIA will be immediately followed by a question and answer session that will last until 9:00 p.m.
The telescopes on top of the Eyring Science Center will also be open for viewing, weather and twilight permitting. The public is welcome to attend immediately after the lecture until 10:00 p.m.
Subsequent lectures in the series will be held on the first Tuesday of each month. The next lecture will occur on August 4th, with the fourth installment scheduled for September 1st. The events will feature BYU astronomy professors Denise Stephens and David Neilsen, respectively.
The auditorium is located on the first floor of the library in 1060 HBLL. The room is on the west side of the library, just to the left of the main stairs.
